Inspiration 9/26

I found this photo recently and fell in love. The contrast between the highly robotic and stiff form of Iron Man, and the Art Nuevo style is a playful yet serious finish. I love the seperate blockyness of the background and would love to put a simmilar look into my own art.

Inspiration 9/22

I've followed this artist's web comic for the past year or so and recently discovered her tumblr. I love the art she posts. As well as the topics she blogs over. Expessially the commentary on the treatment of female characters in comic books and the treatment of women in real life. She has an expessially prolific segment about Wonderwoman. Overall she's a great inspiration, and a constant scorce of amusement.

A favored post of hers: Over why death in comic books never really mattesr. http://coelasquid.tumblr.com/post/8795894227/how-canon-has-ruined-comic-books
Cause well, you're only dead for the moment.

Top 5 Drawings

I found that this drawing was successful due to the fact it easily expresses the intent of the drawing, that being a pair on sunglasses. It shows the light and dark of the sunglasses without being overbearing with information.

The detailed view described here is a good view of the interworking’s of the sunglasses hinge mechanism, also due to the fact the drawing escapes the borders of the pictures frame, it creates and intensity within the drawing.

The crispness of the drawing is refreshing especially compared to the others in the set. It clearly shows the item with all of it complexities and layers.
The freeform nature of this scribble drawing conveys a sense of playfulness while successfully conveying its form.

This pair of scribble drawings is a good show of how the form comes together in a simple way. It communicates a sense of urgency with the dark sharp lines, which combined with the roundness of the lenses makes for an interesting visual.

Good Design

I believe my aviator sunglasses have a good design due to their visual appeal, and their everyday usefulness. Not only are they pleasing to the eye but they also hold many of the Dieter Rams principles, such as usefulness, having an easily definable purpose, durability, unobtrusiveness, and simplistic yet purposeful design. Overall the  aviators are a quality and lasting design.

Objectified

From an artist’s perspective, the movie Objectified was a good showing of the technical aspect of creation. For the viewer to see how a large company such as OXO, or Apple, designs and finally creates a product for public use is awakening and overall pleasurable experience. One of the speakers in Objectified mentioned that “A designer realizes what people need even more than they do,” which I find to be a telling quote. It is a designer’s job to forecast what the populous desires. Be that expensive looking furniture for a cheap price, or a new technological creation. It isn’t the designers who demand the production, buy the buyer who insists on the new and the better. Alternatively, a designer must focus in on the buyers wants, they have to make a design that “distinguishes you”, and they cannot simply assume that you will be interested in something that doesn’t “make a statement to yourself about yourself.” In short, industrial design is about turning out products, that people want to buy, and I find that theme was accentuated thought the entire movie.
